DAY 6 OF LICENCE 2 TEST DRIVE
Well finally I have found time to finish the licence2testdrive. Today I have learnt about del.i.cio.us and I've set up my own account and had a great time with tagging and checking out the way libraries are using this tool to help their clients to locate resources and research information. I've also checked out Technorati and added books to my own "Library Thing" account. Very interesting...

RSS FEEDS
Now I think I have the hang of adding RSS feeds. These will be really useful when our IT section lets us have access to bloging in the work place.
DAY 5 OF LICENCE TO TEST DRIVE
Today I've learnt about RSS feeds. They are a great way to bring information to the user instead of having to go to other sites to find out about favourite topics. I thought I had subscribed to quite a few extra feeds, so I'm still trying to figure out what I did wrong. Anyway the task was to subscribe to 5 including Opal Training which I did!

DAY 4 OF LICENCE2TESTDRIVE
Back again,
Today I have been learning about social networks. I didn't realise that flickr is classed as a social network. I had a quick look at facebook, but the social network which really interested me is called LibraryThing. I would love to be able to access it from work as I think it could be really useful as a collection development tool for the adult fiction. It includes book reviews, ratings, lists for book groups etc... Also complete catalogue records.
Anyway I have joined and for now I will just have to access from home.
Official definition:
A social network service focuses on building online communities of people who share interests and/or activities, or who are interested in exploring the interests and activities of others. Most social network services are web based and provide a variety of ways for users to interact, such as e-mail and instant messaging services.
Social networking has encouraged new ways to communicate and share information. Social networking websites are being used regularly by millions of people.

WETPAINT
Today is day 3 of my Licence2TestDrive.
I have been reading about Wiki's and for practice loged on to the State Library Wiki called Wetpaint and added a post.
My only experience with Wikis has been in using Wikipedia to find information regarding author profiles. I have found Wikipedia really useful.
As far as being useful in my work area, I guess in Technical Services we could have our own wiki to store and access work instructions, so that staff could add any revisions and problems or tips which may be helpful to others in the Team.

MY EASTER HOLIDAY 2009
This Easter was my first visit to Melbourne in over 40 years. I got to ride on the city trams, visit Captain Cook's Cottage, see my old primary school and eat lots of wonderful Greek and Italian food.
As part of our holiday Steven and I hired a car for a couple of days to do the Great Ocean Road drive.
It was awesome!
We stayed a night at Apollo Bay and then next morning checked out a lighthouse (I think Cape Otway Lighthouse) and then to Port Campbell to see the 12 Appostles. That afternoon we drove on to Ballarat and stayed the night at a place called Buninyong.
I think Libraries can make a great deal of use of flickr and blog technology to post information about past and upcoming events.

DAY 1
Today is Friday the 24th of April 2009, and this is my first attempt at blogging!! Not sure how useful this will be to me, as I only use email at work via Outlook. My daughter uses blogs for her Uni studies, and chat to keep intouch with friends.
Anyway for now this is a record of my knowledge of Web2 and the skills I hope to develop over the next few weeks.
My current knowledge of Web2 is 0, so things can only get better.
